API Terms of Use

Service Description

The Open International Phonics Library (oiPL) API is a read-only interface providing access to phonics-related audio files and descriptive metadata.

The API is designed exclusively for educational and instructional use.

Nature of the Service

  • No user accounts
  • No authentication tied to individuals
  • No user-generated content
  • No data submission

The API does not support user authentication or tracking.

Data Handling

The API does not collect, store, or process personal data.

Basic access logs (such as IP address and request time) may be temporarily recorded by infrastructure providers for security and performance purposes. These logs are not used for profiling.

Permitted Use

The API may be used for:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Educational software and tools
  • Research and non-commercial learning applications

Commercial Use

Commercial use of the API is not permitted by default.

Commercial use may be allowed only with prior written permission from the Open International Phonics Library.

Prohibited Use

Without written permission, the API may not be used for:

  • Paid products or services
  • Subscription platforms
  • Advertising or tracking
  • Training commercial AI or speech models

Relationship to Content

Audio content accessed via the API is subject to the Sound Library License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Ownership

The API service and associated materials are operated by the Open International Phonics Library.
